Jerry Lee Young’s Idaho Heritage Museum

Visitors from all over the world and of all ages have enjoyed the richness and variety of the Jerry Lee Young Collection.

Our Story

The story of Jerry Lee Young’s legacy all began as a little boy when he was 7 years old. He discovered his first arrowhead when he went with his Uncle Bert to the mountains. That arrowhead was the start of his life’s work as a collector of artifacts and a life long student of the history of human existence in IDAHO, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Canada, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Mexico, Northern Africa, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand; A heritage of over 15,000 years.

Today his collection consists of over 40,000 artifacts, 300 mounted animals; fossilized remains of giant prehistoric creatures; guns that tamed the west; and a very special gift shop featuring not only the work of nationally recognized local artist, but books and artifact cases for the collector which are often difficult to obtain elsewhere.

How Far We’ve Come

The Jerry Lee Young’s Idaho Heritage Museum was opened October 3, 1987 in celebration of the United States Constitution. This museum is as up-to-date as any in America, with sophisticated security systems, murals, dioramas and ever changing exhibits. Best of all, when you come to the museum, Jerry will most likely be there to guide you and let you share in the sense of discovery.

Jerry’s goal is to show you the peaceful ways of Native life before the coming of the white settlers. You’ll be fascinated by his stories. Come visit the museum soon or invite Jerry to give a slide show at the next meeting of your school, club, or civic organization. Ask about off-site lectures and custom tours. You won’t want to miss is it!
